Why does writing cover letters suck so hard?

Because they want to make sure that you REALLY WANT THE JOB so they make you do stupid, evil tasks. And they want to make sure you can spell and use proper grammer. Which I can't spell.

Because it's hard to impress people in writing when everyone else is saying the exact same thing (although of course, 90% of them are lying, which you're obviously not.)

Completely random: I got a job once because I used a semi-colon properly in my cover letter, and was the only person out of 25+ applicants to submit a letter with no typos.

I am surely doomed because I both want this job and just lost my command of the english language. Oy.

Where I used to work, we scored people out of 25 on their cover letter. The average was around, say, 17 on days I was feeling generous.

Now I can't get the glee I took at improperly placed commas out of my head. I may have just removed all of the commas from my letter. *headdesks*

Oooh, ouch. Although if you know what people are looking for in a cover letter, you've at least got the edge . . .

*sniggers* Yes, the job is doomed. Resign yourself! (And then you'll probably get it.)
