I found this walking to brunch this morning:

!!!!!!!

(That is a genuine (as far as I can tell) Canadian $100 bill.)

There was no one around. The store in front of which I found it was closed. After snatching it from the ground, I spent a good minute gaping and looking around for the hidden camera/string/Aston Kutcher to no avail.

I called the police when I got home and they said to bring it in, which I will do, but is way out of my way. Can't they just send a car for it or something? (I am pretty sure this means I will have to wait a year for someone to claim it, but still.)

I keep forgetting and then thinking "hey, remember what I did today? Oh yeah, I FOUND ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS."

You? Are a better woman than I my friend. Calling the police! Impressive.

I hope your good karma comes back around.

Good character, Ma'am. I probably would've tried hard to find out who it belonged to, but I might not have gone so far as to call the police. ;)

Want to hear something depressing? I've brought up this moral dilemma with my students ("If you found $50 in the hallway and knew who it belonged to, would you return it?"), and quite a few of them cheerfully reply with "Finders keepers." Sigh.

Elly, you are so much more honest than I am! *squishes you*

(I might've called the police but not brought it in... what's to keep them from pocketing it themselves?)

If it were me... I'd keep it, photocopy it, and if someone can positively identify what they lost and where they lost it, you can always give them a different $100 bill back. JMO. :D

Eh, I have to figure out if getting the bill to the police station is worth the karma points. It's way out of my way, and I could buy a nice dinner with my ill-gotten gains.

(My conscious is not happy with me tonight.)

I am so tempted by finders keepers! Mostly because getting to a police station is a hassle, but still!

It did cross my mind that $100 would buy a lot of donuts.

I have resisted telling the folks I tell the story to where exactly I found the bill because I don't put it past them to call and claim it as their own. ;)
