Hey, guys! Vancouver didn't win the Stanley Cup! Too bad! And now a bunch of jackasses are setting things on fire! Fantastic! Stay classy, guys. Jesus. I'm so embarrassed to live here right now.

It's so ridiculous.

I mean, the good part is nobody died, but seriously, way to make an entire city look like a bunch of overgrown toddlers having a tantrum.

And how'd they manage to burn the damn cars anyway? Cars are made of metal, they're not what you'd call flammable until you get to the gas tank.

It's the Hollywood North effect. Maybe try not to adopt that part of LA. :-(

I just saw a guy throw a firecracker in through the broken car windows. Granted, I also saw his face so hopefully they'll track the asshole down and arrest him later.

And I heard someone fell off of the Dunsmir viaduct - hope they're okay. God, this is a mess.

Ugh. There was a riot in '94 the last time the Canucks lost the cup. Sadly this is not new. Though if we can blame LA, I'm sure we will.

Ah, that explains it. The upholstery IS very flammable.

Re: the faller, I really really hope they're not dead, or paralyzed for life.

I just have to keep reminding myself, "This is better than Heysel. This is better than Hillsborough. Nobody's dead. Hopefully.

It's barely even the fans though. People brought Molotov cocktails PRE MADE cause they were determined to do this. I was down there and we just ran with about 30 seconds to go because we realised something bad was about to do down.

Yeah these guys with face masks and bandanas were not down for a fun afternoon of hockey. Not fans. Not at all. Glad you guys made it out!

So scary. Saw the news acounts last night (linked to by William Gibson, so random that he has become one of my sources of breaking news) - hope you don't have to go anywhere near there! I feel bad for all the folks who got hurt, and businesses that got trashed.

I'm pretty far away. My best friend was working in one of the buildings next to where the first car was set on fire and couldn't let any of us know she was okay until after midnight, so that was all kinds of awesome. Not. Sigh.

Man, I hate people!

This is why I hate having no internet for a day...

I've heard that those rioting weren't even FROM Vancouver BUT you Vancouverites had to clean up their mess anyway and a LOT of people came out to do just that.

The Canucks losing was just an excuse for violence. Even if they had won more than likely it still would have happened.

It is interesting to note that in Boston nothing really happened...just a lot of happy and drunk people. You know, the usual.

Here's the thing: they kept saying it was a small group of anarchists up from Seattle or where ever, but I watched it live on tv, and there were a hell of a lot of people joining in who certainly didn't appear to be motivated by anything more political than the alcohol in their blood stream. Today the police sort of came out and said that the kids they have and will be arresting are local idiots who were drunk and stupid, which, you know, fantastic. (I have moved from the grief of a few days ago where literally everything was making me cry, to anger. So much anger.)

Granted, a lot of guys 'happened' to have ski masks and bandanas in their backpacks next to fireworks and molotov cocktails, so, yeah, there were definitely some shit disturbers out there.

We originally heard they were trying to roll a bus in Boston! Hilariously I still hear people saying "well, we rioted, but they tried to roll a bus in Boston!" Oh, Vancouver.

Congrats, by the way. The Bruins certainly deserved their win!

Were they seriously trying to blame people from the US for coming up to Vancouver to start shit? We're really too lazy to do that anyway. ;-) Either way, I'm sorry that idiots did that and fucked up Vancouver's rep.

Congrats, by the way. The Bruins certainly deserved their win!

Thanks! When they went up 2-0 I breathed a sigh of relief. Tim Thomas was a freaking BEAST in goal! Not bad for an old guy. And is it just me or are most hockey players pretty hot? Not all, but most.

Yeah, remember the World Trade riots in Seattle? They're blaming the same folks.

In the middle of the rioting someone tweeted "Vancouver police are going to send Tim Thomas out onto the streets, since he's been able to stop everything else in these playoffs." Ridiculous.

I would absolutely get down with Ryan Kessler. Have you seen his underwear ad? Rwar. And I am no puck bunny!

Wow. Just wow.

I would absolutely get down with Ryan Kessler. Have you seen his underwear ad? Rwar. And I am no puck bunny!

No, but for some reason found myself googling "Ryan Kessler Underware." Oh, my. Very nice.

There was some judicious googling of that at work one day. We didn't get much done after that beyond clutching at out pearls and "oh my stars"-ing that day. Yes. Ahem.
