I had been out all night at a country western bar, learning to do the two step with my crush, laughing and drunk on Corona.

I remember stopping at Tim Hortons and buying coffee for my friends because they had stayed out all night with me even when we all had to work the next day.

I remember turning my tv on at 7:00am, switching to CNN and seeing the footage of the pieces of the shuttle streaming back to earth.

I remember sitting on my bed heavily, thinking this doesn't happen anymore.

I'm too young to remember Challenger; space has been nothing but safe to me. I understand the risks intellectually, I've seen Apollo 11, I know that sending people hurtling towards space riding a giant gas tank and then throwing them back at the ground in a flimsy shuttle is by no means something that is simple.

Now I know. And maybe I was over tired, maybe I was still a little drunk, I don't know. I do know I'll never forget this day, when I was affected by the death of those astronauts so deeply.

Peace, Columbia.
