Went to see Passchendaele today, which for those of you not Canadian is a Canadian-written and produced movie about World War I starring Paul Gross.
I don't know why (well, I do - birth of a nation, Vimy Ridge, Ypres, etc.) but WWI is really Canada's world war. Hooray for the second war and all, but WWI seems much more important to our national story.
Anyways, it was ok. Beautifully shot - you'd never tell it wasn't a big Hollywood pic. The acting was fine, but I guess the love story that was supposed to be the heart of it never grabbed me. Mostly it made me want to come home and wikipedia the battle and the story of the Germans crucifying Canadian soliders.
Wait. No, mostly it made me think "how can people do that to each other?" Oy.
Also, what sort of deal with the devil has Paul Gross made that he never ages? Due South was years ago, and yet he looks excatly the same. Huh.
