I was kind of . . . underwhelmed by this one. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm almost completely unspoiled for the rest of the season, with the exception of the trailers, but I suspect this ep was setting up a lot.

1. Felix Gaeta, you are more fucked in the head than anyone on any of those ships. With good reason, but still.

2. Hot Dog, you dog. Also, was this just an easy way to make Hera more special, or is it all an elaborate ruse to protect the fattest baby IN THE WORLD OMG.
- So, huh. I sort of wonder about the nature of Cally and Hot Dog's 'relationship.' Part of me suspected maybe she had been raped (what? Like that would have been a surprise on this show. Please.) but I guess not?
- Who else had the thought that it might be Lee? Just me? Just me and all the people currently writing the fic in which Lee and Kara raise little Nicky, I suppose.

3. Speaking of Kara, wow. I don't know what to do with her right now. By that I mean I still adore her, but I have no idea what to make of her. Is she cylon? Is she human? Is she divine? I don't know, and she doesn't know, and I'm starting to get frustrated if I'm only going to get two minutes of her being used as a plot device for other stories.
- I suspect the lesson Ron is trying to teach here is that we, the audience, shouldn't care what Kara is, we should just love her. That is not going to work for me, Ron. I will be needing answers, pls.

4. Were all of Lee's exits from scenes awkward and like he was in a play, or was that just me?
- At one point I swear I saw Jamie lean around a camera as he left. Hee.

5. Something was off about the direction.

6. ISHAY! WHOOT! I always enjoy seeing Kerry Norton - I'd be happy if she played a bigger role in Gaeta's little rebellion just to see more of her.
The adorable Mrs. Bamber, ladies and gentlemen!
- I will say this about BSG - they are good with their character continuity, by which I mean the bit players are seemingly an important part of establishing the feel of a closed society.

7. How happy are the A/R shippers with that last bit? Finally more than a peck! I am happy for you.
- And, well, slightly nauseated, because OMG MOM AND DAD NEKKID.

8. Hey, who thinks it's a good idea to send a cylon to the ship that has just mutinied and murdered two marines and a cylon because cylons tried to board? Adama, the dumb ass.
- I know Athena was on patrol, but could Helo not have piped up in that moment?
- I like Tahmoh's hair in this ep!

8a. HEY ADAMA. REMEMBER WHEN YOU SENT YOUR SON TO ARREST THE PRESIDENT BECAUSE SHE MADE A DECISION YOU FELT THE MILITARY SHOULD HAVE MADE? REMEMBER HOW THAT WORKED OUT? HUH? HUH?
- Not well. It worked out not well.

9. What were the pills Bill was popping?

ETA 10. COTTLE. MORE COTTLE IN '09!

In conclusion: wait, why is Laura still president? Is it because Zarek will take over if she is not? Can't she call some sort of election and then step down?

Oy.

Hey! Don't encourage me! You are the one with real, live baby experience! I just adore your babies from afar!

According to Ron, the pills are just for pain. Adama is old and achy. :p

Ah. Well. Hmm. I thought maybe they were heart pills or something, but that makes sense too.

(Thanks to Eddie and D*C I am sure this will turn into some sort of horrible addiction.)

Actually, I think they're painkillers for his constant hangovers - because, well, have you noticed he's taken over from Saul as the resident booze hound?

Papadama - he drinks, he gets laid, he doesn't give a frak anymore. Heh - I so can't blame him.

Just me and all the people currently writing the fic in which Lee and Kara raise little Nicky, I suppose.

Oh, god, don't give anyone ideas!

I was also happy to see Ishay (though it may have given me RPF ideas. I am ashamed.)

According to RDM's interview with Mo Ryan, the pills were just painkillers.

I hadn't noticed that about Lee's scenes, but I'll keep an eye out when I rewatch.

Many of the characters' motivations (at least in the political arc) felt strange and slightly off, but they also made sense within the context of the season as a whole. I suppose it's a sign of character growth, though it did seem odd.

Oh, god, don't give anyone ideas!

Oh, like I need to give anyone ideas! *snort*

I was also happy to see Ishay (though it may have given me RPF ideas. I am ashamed.)

Oh, hon. half the reason I like seeing Ishay is because we get to see Kerry. WRITE THE RPF, YO.

I think I'm just not used to character growth on my shows (see: Stargate) so it all feels off to me. This is a show I think I am going to rewatch on dvd and really appriciate a few years from now.

Ron directed for the first time.

Also explains the long ode to Adama BRUSHING HIS TEETH.

From: [identity profile] elly427.livejournal.com

YES. THE TEETH (TOOTH?) BRUSHING! WHAT THE HELL? That was not that interesting! There are 8 eps left Ron. THERE ARE BETTER THINGS TO FOCUS ON.

OY!

talk about a huge time waster..that told me in the first 30 seconds that this was going to be a slow character piece which are fine after shake em up eps. like the last two but Ron just doens't do that. (e.g. Black Market, The Woman King) if it weren't for the slow boil of rebellion and the hints toward future plot point this one would have been a serious stinker.

There's only so much Adama navel gazing I can stand.

Which is apparently a recurring theme in this half season. Now, I get that works with the painkillers and the half empty glasses of alcohol as pointers towards his growing reliance on alcohol but COME ON, RON, WE GET THE MESSAGE.

Also, much as I love EJO, he doesn't look his best when he brushes his teeth, dude.

Who else had the thought that it might be Lee?
That thought crossed my mind too even though it would make NO SENSE. But I was just thinking "Ok, so what other male characters are left on this show?" and there really aren't that many, so I considered all options. As did Cally, apparently, hahahaha....Sorry.

HEY ADAMA. REMEMBER WHEN YOU SENT YOUR SON TO ARREST THE PRESIDENT BECAUSE SHE MADE A DECISION YOU FELT THE MILITARY SHOULD HAVE MADE? REMEMBER HOW THAT WORKED OUT? HUH? HUH?
Man, I so wanna rewatch that episode now. Aaah, good times.
