I will post a longer, more detailed post on The Hunger Games series (which is FANTASTIC, btw) later, but [livejournal.com profile] taragel has managed to throw me for a total loop tonight so here is this poll.

[Poll #1456068]

There is no question, Katniss's Kara's Lee (yeah, figure THAT grammer out) is 100% Peeta what with his undying, long-term, carefuly hidden love for Katniss. Stupid, noble, self-sacrificing Lee, I mean Peeta.

BUT WHATEVER. We are all entitled to our opinions. Maybe Gale is Lee. MAYBE. OMG it's totally Peeta, [livejournal.com profile] taragelplease!

Most of you have no idea what I am talking about, do you?

I have to agree, I thought of Peeta as Lee as well. His idealism, that he wanted to act in a way that he could stand for, be proud of, that he was willing to sacrifice himself by aligning with the "bad" kids, everything. I can see parts of Lee in Gale as well, but I also felt that I didn't really get a good grasp on Gale yet. Maybe that will change after I read the second book, which I have not been able to get hold of yet.

YES. I mean, er, I do agree with you!

(I've read the second book. I don't want to spoil you, but I agree completely with what you've said about Gale.)

Peeta is totally Lee, for all the reasons you list, or at least in my mind.

I need to read these books. I've got a bit of a book queue right now, LOL, but I will do it! You're the 10th K/L shipper who has mentioned them this month.

From: [identity profile] callmeonetrack.livejournal.com

Heh. I think that's at least partially my fault. I've been pushing these books like crack cocaine to my flist ever since I read them. But there are quite a few surface similarities to BSG (a post-apocalyptic world with twelve districts that survived a rebellion, plus a shady thirteenth district...) that have nothing to do with K/L.

See, the thing for me is that when I started The Hunger Games I was pretty much obsessed with pilots and when we meet Gale, who is clearly the Apollo to Kat's Artemis pretty much, her hunting partner, her equal, her best friend, the only one she can be herself around and let down her guard and REALLY smile at... PLUS he is so offended by the injustice and oppression of the capitol (democracy Lee!) and he is all about "Let's run away together and find a bright shiny future and make babies" and she is all "Bitch please, ain't no bright and shiny for us." And he's loved her for a while, it's so clear and she's so determinedly oblivious and he's all dark and handsome and capable and taking care of his family in the absence of his father and people could mistake them for brother and sister and in the second book there is the moment that is very HOME-like and the line that she says midway through about who they are to each other and "anything else is unfathomable" and and and....

*BREATHE*

Yeah, I just see a lot of Gale/Lee similarities. ;)

I do think Peeta has the pining/emo parts of Lee down and maybe some of the diplomacy/knows how to talk to people, but he strikes me as such a weaker character and someone who cannot keep up with Kat in many ways. And yeah I'm probably going to get my heart stomped on in the end, but I'm optimistic still...

I can really see this too, but when I read the book, I thought of Peeta as Lee, and that's what stuck with me.

So whoever Kara/Katniss ends up with, it's still Lee, just different parts of him... :D

I guess, but I'm not a multishipper. So...it ain't doing it for me. ;) It's Gale or bust.

This.

Much as I think Peeta's a sweet guy, he's no equal to Katniss, and the fact that Kara and Lee *are* equal partners is probably the biggest reason I ship them so hard. Peeta actually reminds me a lot of Sam in that I feel he absolutely adores Katniss and would indeed do anything for her, but...doesn't really understand her like Lee Gale does. ;)

Sorry to barge in on your post, Elly. I'm just so glad people are talking about this series! I love it.

This is pretty much how I see it too. There's also the fact that Peeta knows that Katniss loves Gale and wants to be with Gale but she can't/won't, which is what Sam went through too. Gale is like home to Katniss, and they are best friends who began having complicated romantic feelings for each other, who are kept apart by difficult circumstances. And they're "cousins" so they have the incest thing going too. :)

That said, I do see elements of both guys that remind me of Lee, so I am not opposed to the idea of Peeta as Lee or of Katniss ending up with Peeta. Gale isn't Sam though, so then the parallels kinda stop. Though I do think Madge might be Dee.

Also, the end of Catching Fire makes me think that book 3 will have Gale/Katniss in even more pilot-like situations than in previous books. [vague in case some people haven't read this]

From: [identity profile] thrace-adama.livejournal.com

I don't have much to add to this because, well, ITA with all of it!

Ha, Madge as Dee! That's quite interesting. Hadn't thought of that before, but I can see it now.

Same here. *crosses fingers*

Ooh I'm so glad I wandered back here. V. interesting about Sam and Dee. (Ha Madge=Dee is a good one and was actually where I thought they might be going with it at one point, but I think maybe not now after CF where she served a very important purpose...for Kat.)

I didn't really see Peeta as being all that Sam-like except that he sorta felt like the interloper in Kat/Gale's somewhat established thing to me. But you make good points! I don't know how I will feel if ends up Kat/Peeta. I mean with the amount of pages devoted to them, it certainly seems like that might be the expected scenario but...GALE!! Sigh.

Oooh good point about book three and more pilot-y situations. YAY!

YES!!! Go TeemPeeta! Tara told me I had some company in this regard so I headed off to the LJs to research it.

I've seen Lee in Peeta from the very first, even though I didn't like Peeta's puppy dog moments in the first book. I liked him all around in CF. And the *thing* he made for HER? Kills me dead. omg.

ETA: for CF spoilers. didn't know if i should have those or not.

In my opinion it would be Gale. Peeta is more of a Helo to me.
