A news story from Nunavut:

Kid goes hunting with his uncle. Kid gets seperated from his uncle. Kid ends up on an ice floe, drifitng 40 kilometres from land.

While waiting for rescue, kid has to fight off a polar bear.

No, seriously. He had to shoot it. They have the carcass.

Three things:

1. Someone get the movie rights to this sucker.
2. Seriously, seriously what the heck sort of country do I live in that this happens?
3. Does this have something to do with the Lost polar bear?

Wow, wild frontier over there! :D That's kind of awesome.

(but what is up with the comments on that article? a whole lot of people seem to be missing the point...)

He was in the high arctic, so it's not like this sort of thing is likely to happen outside my front door, but still!

Also, the CBC comments frequently (FREQUENTLY!) frustrate me to no end. Oy. I actually make a point of trying not to read them.

Some nimrod on the radio was saying that the boy shouldn't have shot the polar bear since they're so few in numbers. I was speechless as I think the radio host was, too.

Yeah, well, let's put the nimrod on an ice floe 40 km out to sea with a hungry polar bear and see what he does. GOOD LORD.
