I wanted to put a post it on this at the bookstore that said "it's called fanfiction, and it's free on the internet."

Because this isn't even any "adapted from a fic" stuff, this is straight up Jane Eyre fic in published, hardcover, $16.99 a pop form.

OMG! Today at work I was looking at the upcoming slate of audios we're doing and on it was WUTHERING NIGHTS by Bronte & some other person. I LAUGHED OUT LOUD. It must be part of this same thing.

Oh good lord. I mean, I will never be a professional writer to my complete lack of original ideas, and had I only know about this I could have gotten in on the ground floor!

Though frankly it's good to know I could have fic that's not awkward podfic to listen to on my next long car trip, I guess.

Also, Wuthering NIGHTS? Really? Really? I mean, I get the idea that if these classic novels were written today they'd likely have a bit more in the way of, er, adult moments, but I refuse to believe Emily Bronte would have put up with the puns.

The whole new world of fanfiction = legit FICTION is so weird. I can't quite grasp it even though I know there are plenty of books that are simply very thinly veiled fanfic/inspired heavily by books, movies, TV, etc.

I'm especially curious about the whole "shared byline" part of it. Contractually I mean.

Hee. I did a double take when I saw the title. It's the 50-Shadesification of every classic ever I guess. Just like after Twilight got big, all those classics got a new cover treatment with black background, red single item foregrounded.
