What I need to do now is come up with 12 well written, consiely worded pages of thoughtful insights on why communism failed to capture the interest of the peasantry in pre-partition India in the next oh, seven and a half hours.

Joy. Fluff? You know I wouldn't ask if it weren't dire. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? *looks pathetic and cute*

Huh.

Wouldn't some of that have to do with the thousands-year long ingrained class sctructure and various cultures (Because India was never fucking India until Ghandi and his crew were all "The India of Yore!!!" and the rest of the country was all "!? We were all divided tribally until the British showed up! We're still separated into kingdoms! But you do have swingin' threads...") intertwining of religion and everyday life?

*eyes self* Okay, the Empirical Russia class and the South East Asian History class just had a war in my head and went "It worked in Russia because they had shit arable land and in India they actually have some ocean-access for shipping and trade and parts of it have good farm land."

...

Right.
